Giving is an act of worship

Giving isn’t a way for “the church” to get rich. It’s how the mission of the church is carried out; it’s how we support each other; it’s the means by which we renew our city and our world. As followers of Christ, we labor not to accrue personal wealth or possessions, but to sacrificially and generously steward God's resources well and model Jesus to our brothers, sisters, and community.

Our work is an effort to serve our Father in all things, and one of the primary ways we serve God is by cheerfully giving God our “firstfruits” (2 Corinthians 9:7; Proverbs 3:9). We're asking folks involved in The City to contribute not by meeting some obligatory percentage, but gladly sacrificing for the sake of the gospel because Jesus sacrificed for us, and all we have is His.

2010 Support

As we build a new church community, one of our practical needs is for outside financial support. By God's providence and the generosity of several generous individuals and organizations, we raised nearly $40,000 over the Fall of 2009, enabling us to do and purchase everything we needed as we move toward our January 2010 church "launch."

We are relying on sources outside our church family for 75% of our 2010 needs ($112,500), and will decrease our need for outside support by 25% each year 2011-2012. Our goal is that reliance on outside funding is gone by the beginning of 2013, through the faithfulness of our people giving generously toward our work together.

Here's a glimpse at our 2010 pledges [as of 12.01.2009]:
