SERVE: Watch Parties
"Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it to the glory of God." (1 Cor 10:31). We believe that "whatever you do" includes watching the Super Bowl, so we're encouraging you to invite neighbors over, watch the game, throw a grand party, and worship in a very different-than-normal way. Here's what we mean:
Since regular “church life” happens in your Village, once every 4-6 weeks we don’t hold an All-Church Gathering; instead, we worship in a way long-forgotten in the American church: instead of singing, preaching, and sharing together (“gathered worship,” or “worshipping in,” if you will), we instead worship “out,” or “scattered,” through loving our neighbors, seeking the welfare of our city, loving the proverbial widows and orphans in our midst, and showing glimpses of the gospel through beautifying run-down parts of our city. Practically, we throw block parties for our neighbors, invite co-workers and classmates over for dinner, clean up a park, mow elderly neighbors’ yard then eat dinner with them, serve at a homeless shelter, or any number of other opportunities.
So love your neighbors. Get to know them, and show them Jesus' love and generosity. Worship well, friends.
