Why Aren't We Gathering Every Sunday?

After a fantastic, Spirit-filled night at The City Church's launch gathering, we're not holding another All-Church Gathering until February 21. Why on earth would we do that? Here are a few reasons:

  1. The life of The City Church happens in Villages - The gathering is not the "main event" of The City Church; true life happens instead in Villages, as we gather, eat, encourage each other, pray for each other, speak the gospel and God's truth to each other, and generally do life together. We want to make a statement as we start All-Church Gatherings, that they will never become the main focus of life in our church family. So we're starting slow. IN OTHER WORDS...
  2. ...We want to "warm up" to our normal schedule, which wil most likely start Easter Sunday - after a couple months we'll settle into our normal rhythm for All-Church Gatherings, which is gahering several weeks in a row, then scattering for mission and service to our city once every four to six weeks. So January 24 through Easter Sunday, we're planning to gather every other Sunday night. BUT...
  3. ...Super Bowl Sunday is Feb 7 - The big game falls on our second "every-other-week" gathering. Because it would be foolish to host a gathering during the Super Bowl, but more importantly because it's a built in night for neighborhood mission, we decided not to gather during this great opportunity. SO...
  4. ...We're hosting Super Bowl Parties - in Villages and neighborhoods, we're hosting watch parties, where you invite neighbors, friends, co-workers, and classmates to eat, laugh, and enjoy the game with you. Live on mission; click here for details.

So on February 21, March 7, and March 21, we'll dive deeper into the Gospel, wrapping up The Gospel Centered Life disucssions on Easter, April 4. Until then, get plugged in to a Village; get to know, love, and encourage each other as you do life together. And live on mission everyday, but specifically Feb 7: invite people into your home and watch the game with believing and not-yet-believing neighbors.

Then we'll see you February 21, 6pm, at Four Day Weekend Theater.
